To provide a uniform operating procedure which ensures access to the service for children, adolescents and young people to the age of 25 years who fit our core criteria of: Referral will be prioritised after consideration of available information including assessment of risk to self or others. Priority codes include:- Immediate action/Same day; Referral to Local Community Mental Health Service or Accident and emergency              72 hours;              7 days              Within the 28 days EMERGENCY or high risk category referrals will be passed on to the Local Community Mental Health Service for attention as soon as possible; however, within normal working hours and will be actively monitored (this may include regular telephone contact, liaison with a support person or other treating professionals, development of interim management and/or coping strategies) and followed up with an appointment at the first available opportunity. All other referrals are to follow the normal operating process in the order in which they are received. After hours emergencies will be managed through the nearest Accident & Emergency Department.
