While a referral from a Psychiatrist, Paediatrician or a General Practitioner is preferred, consistent with a shared care model, referrals will be taken from a range of sources including: aChild, adolescent or the young person, family members, carers or guardians aSchool personnel aGuidance Officers aSchool health nurses aCommunity agencies aPolice                         aJuvenile Justice       aAccident and Emergency Departments Alternatively, family members or the young person themself may contact or present to the service. Collateral information from as many agencies as possible is preferred. If you are making a referral on behalf of a child, adolescent or young person, it is important that you have obtained appropriate consent. When a referral is made, information/details will be collected to determine if the referral falls within the target client group. Emergency referrals will be dealt with as a matter of priority.  After hours emergencies should go to the Accident & Emergency Departments of the local hospitals. Accepted referrals will be allocated an appointment time. Where the referral is not accepted by Young Lives, assistance will be given with on-going referrals to more appropriate services.
